Reviung5 PCB + Case Kit

The Reviung5 is probably my go-to "first soldering build", that I would recommend. It has an easy build guide (found here) and gives you enough practice with soldering with 4 or 5 switches and only a handful of SMD components.

My favorite layout is shown, with the left side encoder installed with the 4 keys on the right side. It's very useful for a few quick shortcuts/macros, such as Zoom meetings and media control.

Things you will need to complete the build:

• 4 (or 5 if you do not use the encoder) switches (MX style)
• Keycaps
• Encoder knob
• USB cable (specifically, micro USB if using the Pro Micro)
• Soldering tools
